The photos featured here are the result of 4 methods using different products to produce a polished concrete surface.
Concrete Polishing, Existing Surface – The process is to grind and polish the existing surface. Every floor is different and not every floor is a perfect candidate. Old floors can have extensive cracks and damage. Many floors look natural with cracks, some don’t, it’s a personal preference. When a floor is ground, aggregate is exposed. There is no way to know how the aggregate will appear or what type is until after grinding. Any color can be created or you can choose to go with natural. Many professionals will apply a wax coat or stain shield that is burnished and melts into the pores of the surface. Durable, easy to maintain, looks like granite.
Self Leveling Concrete Polishing – When the floor is damaged or uneven, a self leveler can be applied. Level 9 , one of our leveling products can be applied at 1/8″ – 1/2″ thick. Floors can be integrally colored and/or topically dyed. Some of our skilled contractors have developed systems for polishing the self leveling concrete to create a natural look.
Micro 6 – This is an overlay that is applied approximately 1/8th to 1 inch thick. It is applied and burnished by hand with a steel trowel. Floors can be integrally colored and/or topically stained or dyed. Floors can be seamless or designed with saw cuts to create the look of polished concrete tile.
Phoenix Micro – Phoenix Micro is a fast application ideal for creating the concrete polishing look. An ideal system is application over Level 9 Self Leveler. This is a spray system that we developed to a custom colored appearance with the burnished look on large floors where Micro 6 is a challenge on large surfaces.
